Two Knights face off in first round of Stanley Cup playoffs
Tonight, two former Golden Knights will meet in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Nico Sturm and the Colorado Avalanche will host Mark Borowiecki and the Nashville Predators. The game will air on ESPN with a puck drop at 9:30 p.m. EST.
For Sturm, this will be his third NHL playoff trip, he played in 2 games in 2019-20 and all 7 games in the Wild’s 2021 first-round loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. In his 9 playoff games, Nico has 2 goals and an assist. For Borowiecki, it’s also his third appearance in the Stanley Cup race. In his two previous playoff trips, he was with the Ottawa Senators, skating in eight games between the 14-15 and 16-17 playoffs.
During the regular season, Boro played 57 games, recording 4 assists and 151 penalty minutes. Last month, Mark signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him in Nashville for the 22-23 season. Mark captained the Golden Knights in 2011 and appeared in 99 games over 3 seasons.
Nico was traded from Minnesota to the Avs at the trade deadline to help provide depth at center for one of the NHL’s best teams this season. In 74 games this season between the Wild and the Avs, Sturm has 9 goals and 11 assists. Sturm captained the Golden Knights in the 2018-19 season which ended with Clarkson winning their 6th ECAC playoff title.
