Street Fighter 6 New Logo Looks Like $80 Piece Clipart
We don’t really have see a lot of Street Fighter 6 when it was revealed yesterdaybut one thing we could see was the logo of the game. I didn’t think we could get to a point where fans would (rightly!) question a new game’s logo in the absence of anything more substantial to complain about, but here we are. .
street fighter is not only one of the most popular video game series of all time, its logos have also been among the greatest of all time, perfectly representing the setting and style of the games. This flashy martial arts font has become as iconic as any character in the series, and as you can see in the image below, from the release of the first game in 1987 until 2016. Street Fighter V, Capcom has maintained a clear sense of continuity, connecting each new game to the last:
Let’s see now Street Fighter 6 and…ah.
That beautiful combative font is gone, replaced by something resembling the logo of a studio that was forced into a supporting role on Call of Duty games for the rest of his life. Roman numerals are also gone, with a base “6” instead. And the logo of the game itself is just a… big SF?
It looks bad. Bad as a coffee roaster who only advertises on Instagram. Bad as a company that makes cheap uniforms for social sports teams. Bad like, well:
But wait, it gets worse. As Ars-Technica Aurich Lawson pointed outnot only does the big “SF” part of the logo look like clipart, it looks a lot like a very specific piece of clipart, available for $80 on Adobe’s stock site:
Of course, a few changes have been made, like softer angles at some corners, the angled crossbar on the F, and a thinner border, but overall they are incredibly similar. Here they are side by side for comparison:
And if that doesn’t get the message across, here’s an overlay, with Capcom’s logo in white and Adobe clipart in gray:
Yeah. Capcom, your income hit “record highs” last yearI think you can afford a redesign on this one.
