Schoolgirl’s uplifting vision is a new logo for development trust

A schoolgirl’s vision of a colorful rainbow high in the sky over Ferguslie Park will be the new symbol of Ferguslie Community Development Trust.

The trust held a competition with Glencoats Primary School to ask pupils to create a logo for the band.

And Alex Ellingham’s design was chosen as the winner and will be used on all official Trust communications.

Ferguslie CDT became an official charity in early 2021 and conducted an extensive community survey – Our Scheme Our Future – to find out what people would like to see changed and improved.

Chairman John McIntyre said: “It is one of the aims of the trust to include as many different facets of community life as possible, especially local schools.

“The schools and the students who attend them are our future and deserve to have their voices heard and their ideas implemented.

“Why we were delighted when Glencoats Primary agreed to enter the competition.

“All of the entries were of a high standard and this made it very difficult for the administrators to decide on a winner.”

Glencoats Primary and Alex, who is now a pupil at Castlehead High, both received awards from special guest Provost Lorraine Cameron.

The trust hopes to continue working with local schools and will include a page on its new website to encourage young people in Ferguslie Park to contribute.

Trustee Donald Hampson said: “I look forward to increasing the Trust’s presence in all schools and nurseries in Ferguslie Park.

“Our Scheme Our Future, together let’s make Ferguslie Park the place where people want to live and raise a family.

Well done Alex and Glencoats Primary.

Ferguslie CDT submitted Our Scheme Our Future to Renfrewshire Council late last year as part of its You Decide fundraising campaign.

They spoke to 200 households and came up with a wish list that focuses on redevelopment of the Old Belltrees area with suggestions including an outdoor gym, growing plots, rest and play areas and a nature discovery trail.
