Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveils Indian G20 Presidency logo, theme and website
As a significant gesture, India will assume the Presidency of the G20 (Group of Twenty) for a period of one year from 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023, and Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi unveiled the logo, theme and website for India’s G20 Presidency.
- India’s message to the world and its overall priorities are reflected in its G20 Presidency logo, theme and website.
The 2022 G20 Summit will be held on November 15-16, 2022 in Bali, Indonesia.
- Indonesia holds the G20 Presidency in 2022, which is chaired by Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
The Group of Twenty (G20)
I.The G20 is the premier forum for global economic cooperation.
- It represents more than two-thirds of the world’s population, more than 75% of world trade and around 85% of world gross domestic product (GDP).
ii. G20 members: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom (UK), United States (United States) and the European Union (EU).
iii.India is currently a member of the G20 troika, which consists of Indonesia, Italy and India and represents the current, previous and incoming G20 presidencies respectively.
The G20 logo
I.The G20 logo features a lotusthe national flower of India, painted in tricolor (saffron, white and green) and blue, with an image of the Earth.
ii.Earth represents the Indian pro-planet concept of living in perfect harmony with nature, while the lotus flower signifies growth over obstacles.
iii.Word “Bharat” is written in Devanagari script under the G20 logo.
The G20 theme
I.The theme of India’s G20 Presidency is Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam which refers to “One Earth, One Family, One Future”.
- It is taken from Maha Upanishadan ancient Sanskrit text.
ii.The theme primarily emphasizes the importance of all life – human, animal, plant and micro-organisms – and its interdependence on Earth and in the greater universe.
iii.The theme also highlights the LIFE (Lifestyle for Environment) movement and the ecologically sustainable and responsible choices associated with it.
I.The Prime Minister also unveiled India’s G20 Presidency website, www.g20.in.
The “G20 India” mobile app has been made available on Android and iOS platforms in addition to the website.
I.India will host more than 200 meetings in 32 different sectors throughout its G20 Presidency, in various cities across the country.
ii.The presidency of the G20 also represents the beginning of “Amritkaal” the 25-year period beginning on August 15, 2022, the day of the 75th anniversary of the country’s independence.
