Odisha CM launches FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup host city logo
Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik on Saturday launched the official logo of the state host city for the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022.
Odisha is one of the three hosts of the World Cup, which is due to be held from October 11-30 in Odisha, Goa and Maharashtra. It will be the first FIFA women’s competition to be held in India and the first FIFA competition to be hosted by Odisha.
Expressing her delight at the launch event, Patnaik said, “Odisha is becoming a premier sporting destination and hosting the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022 is a momentous opportunity for our State”.
The official launch of the host city Odisha logo is a milestone which also signifies the progress of women’s football, he said.
“We are delighted to welcome the best young female footballers from all over the world and especially the Indian team who will play all their group stage matches at Kalinga Stadium,” said the Chief Minister.
As the Indian team makes its first appearance in a women’s FIFA competition, he encouraged the people of Odisha to show their support in large numbers at the stadium.
The official logo of the host city of Odisha is a composite that features the official emblem of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup alongside specially designed artwork that showcases the rich cultural heritage , the state’s vibrant sports ecosystem and general splendour.
The tournament’s Local Organizing Committee (LOC) project managers, Ankush Arora and Nandini Arora, also expressed their feelings of gratitude, while encouraging people to visit the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
On this occasion, a special initiative for school children called “Kick Off The Dream Football Carnival” was also inaugurated. This carnival, which aims to introduce children to football and harness its power to normalize gender-neutral participation, features football-themed games and activities, as well as a five-a-side football pitch and two three-way soccer.
The ‘Kick Off the Dream Football Carnival’ will engage nearly 60,000 school children over 35 days and end on October 17, 2022.–IANS
