NHL announces all-star, outdoor and 2022 draft venues – SportsLogos.Net
At a press event ahead of Game 1 of the 2021 Stanley Cup Final, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced, among other things, the hosts of the 2022 NHL All-Star Game, the Stadium Series, the Winter Classic and the NHL Draft.
Let’s take a look at each of these ads.
2022 NHL ALL STAR GAME
In only their fifth season, the Vegas Golden Knights will host the 2022 NHL All-Star Game at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The All-Star Game award comes wave after wave of success for the relatively new franchise, just consider that in the absolute * worst * season in Golden Knights history, they made it to the playoffs anyway. Stanley Cup.
The 2021 edition of the game, which had been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was initially scheduled to be hosted by the Florida Panthers. No word on if / when they will recover the lost game. Sixteen years later, the Arizona Coyotes are still waiting to reclaim the game they lost to NHL players instead of competing in the 2006 Winter Olympics.
Getting a game in a team’s first five seasons has happened several times before. The New Jersey Devils got the game in 1983-84 in their second season only after moving from Denver, the Blues held their third season and most recently the Minnesota Wild got it in their fourth year. in 2004. At the other end of the spectrum, the Anaheim Ducks, Winnipeg Jets and Arizona Coyotes are still waiting to host their first, each of those three having to wait more than 25 seasons (until ‘now) to do so.
2022 NHL WINTER CLASSIC
Next year’s Winter Classic will remain the same as originally planned for 2021. The Minnesota Wild will host a game played at Target Field (home of the baseball Twins) against the St. Louis Blues.
This will be the second away game for the Wild and the Blues.
As tradition dictates, the Winter Classic will take place on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2022.
The Winter Classic sees teams wearing retro-inspired uniforms, and there are some exciting possibilities here. All eyes will be on the Wild who, after a great success with their green and gold Reverse Retro uniforms, could release another set inspired by the Minnesota North Stars. The Blues have used their original 1960s uniforms a few times before, I would love to see them come back to their original NHL team and wear uniforms inspired by the 1935 St. Louis Eagles.
2022 NHL STADIUM SERIES
After appearing as guests in the 2020 Winter Classic, the Nashville Predators will in turn host an outdoor game, with the Stadium 2022 series at Nissan Stadium (home of the NFL Tennessee Titans) in Nashville. February 26, 2022.
Their opponents for the game may be the back-to-back Stanley Cup champion, the Tampa Bay Lightning, who will play their first-ever outdoor game.
The Stadium series usually features more modern, futuristic-style uniforms (remember the Kings-Avs game in 2020? Shiny helmets!), We got to see some “outside” designs with these two clubs. In what direction will they go? Who knows?! And that’s sometimes part of the beauty of the Stadium Series, it’s totally unpredictable what you’ll end up with for uniforms.
The 2021 Stadium Series game was originally slated to be hosted by the Carolina Hurricanes, the league says it hopes to host them soon with another away game.
COATING NHL 2022
Next summer’s NHL Draft will be the first (hopefully) in-person draft to take place in three years after the virtual draft held in 2020 and the 2021 Draft which will again take place next month. The plan is to host the event in Montreal, which was originally scheduled to host in June 2020 before having to go virtual and push back to October.
Prior to 2020, Montreal had already hosted the NHL Draft in 2009 as part of the franchise’s centennial celebrations.
Note that none of the logos displayed above are the official final logo for any of the events, just placeholders that the league regularly posts with the games announcement. Real real logos will be released in the next few months.
