Men’s Golf Returns to Valley of the Sun for GCU Invitational
PHOENIX, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men’s golf team returns to Phoenix for another shot at the Grand Canyon University Invitational on the 7,148-yard, par-71 GCU Golf Course.
The Eagles will compete in a 23-program field that includes: Abilene Christian, Ball State, Cal Baptist, Cal State Fullerton, Columbia, Creighton, Drake, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Hawai’i, Incarnate Word, Kansas City, North Dakota Northern Colorado State, Omaha, Pacific State Sacramento, Southern Mississippi, TCU, Texas-Arlington and Valparaiso.
Teams will play 36 holes on Monday and another 18 on Tuesday with shotgun tee times each day at 7:45 a.m. MST.
Last year, Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) collected his third career top 10, as he finished in third place in the event. The Toronto, Ont. native posted rounds of 71, 70 and 70 for his all-time best result with a total of 211 over 54 holes.
Despite being just one stroke off the lead after the first round, Eastern was unable to keep pace with a late charge from Wichita State and Southern Mississippi. WSU took first place with an 862 (280-292-290), while USM improved six spots to take second place with an 864 (291-286-287). EMU finished fourth with an 867 (281-288-298), one stroke less than host Grand Canyon (280-288-298=866).
