PF-Aadhaar combining a must this month to get EPF benefits: step by step process to link

The Indian government had issued a mandate defining the end of August as the last day to link its Aadhaar card to the universal account number (UAN). If cardholders have failed to establish the link by August 31, access to the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) will be restricted. Employers will only be able to deposit Employee Challans with Return (ECR) and deposit the money into the EPF account if the UAN is linked to Aadhaar by the deadline. If you do not do this, employees will not be able to withdraw funds from their PF accounts, nor will they be able to make contributions.

Pooja Ramchandani, partner of Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co., said: “The linking of Aadhar to the PF account has become necessary to continue the transparent functioning of the PF accounts. If this is not done, it may disrupt the contribution and withdrawal from the PF account. In fact, the new Social Security Code makes it mandatory to submit an Aadhaar number for registration even as a member or recipient of social security benefits under the Code. Employees will have uninterrupted access to FP services within the legal framework in force as well as when the Social Security Code comes into force. “
