Fungi Mungle to headline Walk A Mile In Her Shoes event
The death of Gabby Petito, the young woman whose body was found in the Bridger Teton National Forest after she went missing on a camping trip across the country with her boyfriend, has once again put the fate of the abused women in the national spotlight. There are reports which allege that Petito was in an allegedly abusive relationship with her boyfriend, Brian Laundry. The YWCA El Paso del Norte region is doing their part to help El Paso women who find themselves victims of domestic violence with their annual fundraiser, Walk A Mile In Her Shoes.
The fundraiser will take place on Friday, October 22 in San Jacinto Square at 5:30 p.m. The walk will first take place and then turn into a Paint the Town Red event featuring Fungi Mungle, El’s favorite local band. Paso. Money raised from the events will benefit the Sara McKnight Transitional Living Center at the YWCA. The Center is a living space for women with and without children who are homeless. So many residents of the center have survived domestic violence and other forms of violence that it is vital to have their own space to recuperate and get back on their feet.
Fundraising is going to be a lot of fun, but it’s fundraising for a serious issue. Domestic violence is the kind of violence that so many people don’t see because women tend to hide it from friends and relatives. This makes it all the more difficult to treat and get the help victims of domestic violence need. If you can go fundraising and help the YWCA, you will help a lot of women get back on their feet.
